With a capacity of 734 moorings (including 100 visitors), the Port of Saint-Tropez extends over 9 hectares, divided between 2 basins, separated by the Quai de l'Épi. It is both a major stopover point and an important international business basin.
In addition, the quality and innovation of the services offered throughout the year have greatly contributed to its good reputation worldwide. Indeed, the port has a team ensuring the daily reception of boaters in all aspects. Facilities and equipment are made available to ensure maximum safety and comfort on land and afloat. As for cleanliness, the port area is regularly cleaned and actively contributes to environmental protection.
This port is said to have been built 600 years before Jesus Christ by Phocaeans, hence the origin of its ancient Greek name: Athenopolis Massiliensium. Since Antiquity, this Mediterranean bay was very frequented by Roman, Celtic and Greek conquerors, who mainly exported oils and wine.
It was after the war and the epidemics, around the 15th century that families from Genoa, Italy came to repopulate the place and try their luck in the new merchant city. Economic activity resumed and the renaissance of the peninsula became rapid. There were a multitude of shipyards and many small coastal shipping operations in expansion.
In the 18th century, Saint-Tropez was the 3rd largest French port in the Mediterranean. Indeed, maritime trade became the main concern of this fishing and trading port on the Mediterranean coast. Fish, wine, wood and locally produced cork became the flagship export products of this small port. At that time, there was also a submarine cable factory in Les Canebiers and a hydrography school.
Since the end of the 19th century, many figures such as Guy de Maupassant, Henry Matisse, Sartre and other artists fell under the spell of the Provençal streets and traditions, which bear witness to the simplicity of the city. Many of them came to settle in the magnificent city to write, paint or create their works inspired by the places and the gentle atmosphere that reigns there.
In the 1920s, Saint-Tropez became fashionable and gave way to a wealthy clientele, palaces, boutiques and luxury yachts. Fashionable personalities paraded and designated the Port of Saint-Tropez as an essential holiday destination. This continued until the 1960s, when the Port of Saint-Tropez also owed its international success to the film "And God Created Woman" by Roger Vadim, Brigitte Bardot, and Jean-Louis Trintignant.
Now frequented by many celebrities and jet-set stars, shops of all kinds are multiplying and making this small Var port an unmissable place for summer tourism.
In the Port of Saint-Tropez you never get bored! Throughout the year, nautical events are organized for regatta enthusiasts and fans. Among them are "Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez", the "Giraglia Rolex Cup", the "Festival Armen" and others. In addition, every year on May 16, the traditional patronal festival of the Bravade of Saint-Tropez is worthily celebrated. An authentic and enriching event not to be missed.
If you decide to go for a stroll not far from the port, in the middle of the traditional facades and houses of this Provencal village, you will discover the famous Tour Suffren, dating from the 11th century. But also the Musée de l'Annonciade, a museum of modern art as well as other exceptional art galleries and exhibitions.
